Further Evidence Scheduled in Kumara Jayakody Corruption Case on September 7

The corruption case against former Minister Kumara Jayakody stems from an incident reported in 2014, during his tenure as Procurement Manager at the Lanka Fertilizer Company. According to the Bribery Commission, Jayakody is alleged to have improperly awarded a carpeting contract for the company’s warehouse complex to a private firm, in a manner that provided unlawful benefit to that company.

Following an internal review, the Bribery Commission initiated legal action, filing formal charges of corruption. The case progressed through preliminary hearings before being taken up by the Colombo High Court, where multiple witnesses have been called to testify.

During the latest hearing, held before High Court Judge Rashantha Godawela, the court recorded statements from two prosecution witnesses. The judge has now ordered that further evidence be presented on September 7, marking the next stage of the ongoing trial.

The case remains active, with additional witness testimonies and documentary evidence expected to be examined as proceedings continue.
