The International Cricket Council (ICC) Board, meeting in Edinburgh, has renewed its demand for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to conduct elections without delay, even as it acknowledged progress toward finalising a revised constitution for the board.
During the Annual Meetings, ICC directors were briefed on Sri Lanka’s ongoing governance overhaul and noted improvements in drafting a new constitution. However, the ICC confirmed that SLC will continue to be barred from representation at Board meetings until meaningful further progress is achieved.
The ICC emphasised that holding elections at the earliest opportunity remains essential to strengthening governance within Sri Lanka’s cricket administration.
The board also "noted progress" of Sri Lanka Cricket towards a revised constitution, but it reiterated that elections should be held as soon as possible while confirming that SLC will continue to be unable to attend ICC board meetings until further notice. No SLC representative was invited to the ICC's quarterly meeting in June as well. There were sweeping administrative changes in SLC in May, which included the ousting of the elected board and the installation of a Transformation Committee by the nation's government tasked with transforming Sri Lankan cricket
Beyond the Sri Lanka update, the ICC Board approved several major governance and membership initiatives. A new Governance Review Committee was established, chaired by Devajit Saikia (BCCI), with Dr Mohammed Moosajee (Cricket South Africa) and Dr Ros Rivaz (ICC Independent Director) serving as members.
The Board also greenlit a Franchise Leagues Committee to address issues arising from the rapidly expanding global franchise cricket ecosystem. This committee will be chaired by Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh Cricket Board) and includes Dr Rudie van Vuuren (Cricket Namibia), Devajit Saikia (BCCI), Richard Gould (ECB), and Todd Greenberg.
